Behavioral Issue

The challenging behavior I targeted for my project is the non responsiveness and defiance during my reading lesson from a student named Mohammed. (pseudonym)

  • Class: Reading Groups (Flex grouping, fifth and sixth graders)
  • Program: Direct Instruction Program. Corrective Reading B1. This program requires students to answer in a choral unison response after a teacher asks a question, gives think time and provides them with a signal.
  • Placement: Students were grouped using placement tests.
  • Demographics: School for students with learning disabilities. Six students in the class, two girls and four boys. A boy and a girl from fifth grade (Mohammed) and the rest sixth graders. Students also have challenging behavior. Parent involvement is minimal.
Mohammed was not answering on signal, did not want to track and was having a difficult time staying focused during class.
I suspected that Mohammed was having a difficult time with the material and was seeking attention from his peers by acting out.
